This experience is exclusive to the Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in southwestern Uganda.

What to Expect During the Experience
Your day begins early in the morning with a briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. After the briefing, you’ll trek into the forest with a team of trackers, researchers, and armed rangers.
Unlike standard treks where the gorillas are already used to humans, habituation groups are more alert and cautious. Observers must maintain silence, limit movements, and allow the gorillas to set the pace of the interaction.

The entire experience lasts about 6 to 8 hours, including the hike to and from the group. But the highlight is the extended 4 hours of gorilla contact time, which is unmatched in standard trekking (which allows only one hour).

The cost of a gorilla habituation permit is USD 1,500 per person for foreign non-residents (as of 2025). This includes park entry fees, guide services, and the 4-hour experience.
Permits are extremely limited—only 4 visitors per day are allowed per gorilla group. Booking should be made at least 6 months in advance, especially during peak seasons (June–August and December–February).
