Minimum Passport Validity

Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond your return date from Africa. If your passport is close to expiry, you may be denied boarding or refused entry on arrival.

This requirement applies to all major primate destinations, including:

Uganda

Rwanda

Democratic Republic of Congo

Blank Pages Requirement

Your passport should have at least two blank visa pages for:

Entry and exit stamps

Tourist or East Africa Tourist Visa

Additional stamps if crossing borders between countries

Multi-country primate safaris (Uganda–Rwanda–Congo combinations) require extra space, so having more blank pages is strongly advised.

Why Passport Validity Matters for Primate Trekking

Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking permits are date-specific and non-refundable. If your passport does not meet validity rules:

Airlines may deny boarding

Special Notes for Multi-Country Gorilla & Chimpanzee Safaris

The East Africa Tourist Visa (Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya) also requires 6-month passport validity

DR Congo visas are issued only to passports meeting full validity rules

Border crossings (e.g., Rwanda–Uganda or Rwanda–Congo) strictly enforce passport checks
